Alright, strap in, space cadets! Welcome to the coolest celestial mapping project this side of the Milky Way: “The Canadian Expanse Explained: Map Building Part I.” Imagine, if you will, a future where Canada isn’t just the second-largest country on Earth, but an entire region in space. That’s right, we’re taking the Great White North to the great black void!
Here’s the lowdown: I’ve been toiling away on Celestia, crafting a 3D map of what I call the Canadian Expanse. This isn’t just any map; it’s a parody that stretches Canada’s iconic landscapes into the cosmos. If my work pans out, you’ll soon be zipping through the stars to check out this universe’s own version of the Rockies, the CN Tower, and maybe even some cosmic poutine!
So, how did I slice up this starry pie? Simple: I turned the 10 Provinces and 3 Territories into Sectors. Each SectorOverview A Sector, commonly referred to as a Provincial Sector, is a designated area of space within the broader and diverse cosmic region known as the Canadian Expanse. These Sectors function similarly to provinces, contributing to the organization and governance of this vast territory. Structure and Division The Canadian Expanse is divided into thirteen Provincial Sectors, each with its own... boasts a bunch of star systems, and yes, I went full nerd mode here. I used the Right Ascension and Declination coordinates from loads of Canadian cities and towns to pinpoint where these celestial bodies lay. Your hometown might just be a moon or a bustling space port now—how cool is that?
Let’s talk naming because every good map needs a system. Each planet in a star system gets a Roman numeral. But hold up, there’s a twist: the main habitable planet in each system also gets a “Prime” label. Take the Vancouver SystemSystem Overview The Vancouver System, located in the British Columbia Sector, is a dynamic and diverse star system comprising seven planets. The system's primary star, Vancouver Prime, is a G-type main-sequence star (Yellow Dwarf), providing a stable environment for its planets. Vancouver Prime (Vancouver III) is notable for its habitable conditions and the presence of its moon, The Capilano Forest..., for example. It’s got eight planets, so you’d see names like Vancouver I, Vancouver II, all the way up to Vancouver VIII. But it’s Vancouver III that’s also dubbed Vancouver Prime, because that’s where all the space action happens. And yes, this stellar Vancouver still sits in the British Columbia SectorOverview A Sector, commonly referred to as a Provincial Sector, is a designated area of space within the broader and diverse cosmic region known as the Canadian Expanse. These Sectors function similarly to provinces, contributing to the organization and governance of this vast territory. Structure and Division The Canadian Expanse is divided into thirteen Provincial Sectors, each with its own....
I’ve laid out most of the stars and sketched in about 30 star systems with all the trimmings—planets, moons, asteroid belts, you name it. It’s a work in progress, but what grand design isn’t? Keep your eyes peeled for updates as I expand this celestial frontier.
Stay tuned, and thanks for joining me on this interstellar odyssey. Who knew mapping the cosmos could be such a wild ride?
