Mr. Jones, the Return Chapter 1: Echoes from the Void

Stories, The Mandoleer's Folly Series

The void of space was a tapestry of mystery, with its most enigmatic thread leading Commander Spacedawg Paul and his RCSC team to a rogue moon on the fringes of explored space. The cryptic distress signal emanating from its surface was both a beacon and a warning.

As they approached, the moon’s craggy, desolate landscape came into view—scarred by dark fissures and ominous craters. “Prepare for landing,” Spacedawg directed, his voice steady despite the unknown that awaited them.

Upon touchdown, the team disembarked, splitting up to cover more ground. Spacedawg and the Alchemist made their way to a structure that appeared to be a makeshift medical facility, partially buried under the moon’s dusty surface.

Inside, they discovered Mr. Jones, unconscious and linked to a series of intricate devices that hummed with a strange energy. “This is no ordinary medical equipment,” the Alchemist observed, inspecting the connections that tethered Mr. Jones to the moon’s enigmatic technology.

While examining the setup, Spacedawg’s hand accidentally brushed against a hidden switch camouflaged within the wall. With a low rumble, a section of the floor slid aside, revealing a dark staircase spiraling downward.

“There’s more to this place than meets the eye,” Spacedawg said, his flashlight cutting through the darkness as they debated their next move.

His trained eyes were vigilant for booby traps or sabotage, evidence that this rogue moon was not just a research facility but a fortified compound.

As each member delved deeper into their respective areas, it became clear that a shadowy organization had engineered the moon’s facilities for a purpose far darker than mere scientific inquiry.

Back at the medical bay, having ensured Mr. Jones’s stability, Spacedawg and the Alchemist descended the newly revealed staircase, each step echoing ominously into the abyss. The passage led them deeper beneath the moon’s surface, towards secrets hidden in its core.

“Everyone, keep your eyes open and stay in contact,” Spacedawg radioed to his team. “We’ve discovered a hidden passage. Continue your investigations and stay alert for anything that might shed light on the operations here.”
