Meanwhile, Kael’s team discovered an ancient guardian in the mining colony, its dormant eyes suddenly glowing as they approached the energy crystals.

The ancient structure powered up, the shield activating just as the enemy fired. The shield repelled the attack, protecting the system.

“Target their lead ship,” Spacedawg ordered, guiding the Folly’s maneuvers.

A fierce battle ensued. The Mandoleer’s Folly, now aided by the structure’s defenses, held its ground. The enemy fleet, unable to penetrate the shield, eventually retreated.

The crew celebrated their victory, but the sense of vigilance remained. “We did it,” Spacedawg said, turning to Dr. Voss. “Your help was invaluable.”

Dr. Voss smiled. “This is just the beginning. There’s still much to uncover.”

Spacedawg looked at his crew, pride evident in his eyes. “Let’s get ready for whatever comes next. The Canadian Expanse is counting on us.”
