Chapter 4: The Rescue

The Mandoleer's Folly Series, Stories

Henry Weedmonger quickly secured the cash needed for the ransom and informed the kidnappers he was ready to comply with their demands. A message soon followed, providing a set of coordinates deep within a dense debris field. The instructions were clear: take a shuttle, bring a pilot, and await further directives.

Spacedawg, volunteering as Henry’s pilot, ensured they were prepared for anything. As they navigated through the field, a follow-up message directed them further into the debris. “Jettison the money and await delivery of the Chef,” it commanded.

They arrived at the designated spot and saw the kidnappers’ ship—a luxury yacht, oddly out of place amidst the wreckage. Spacedawg’s suspicion grew as he noted the ship’s lack of visible armaments. He instructed Henry to stay put and covertly exited the shuttle, sneaking aboard the yacht through an airlock.

Inside, three young men, appearing about college-age, stood around a battered and bruised Chef Kian ScottKian Scott (born July 12, 2238) is a renowned gourmet chef, celebrated for his innovative cannabis-infused cuisine at Weedmonger's Suds, Buds, Bar and Grill. Born and raised on Vancouver Prime, in the Vancouver System of the Canadian Expanse, Scott has become a pivotal figure in the culinary world, merging traditional gourmet techniques with modern cannabis infusion. Early Life and Education... More. They were armed but clearly inexperienced. Spacedawg, setting his firearm to stun, swiftly took down the trio with precision shots and secured them with cuffs.

“Thank you,” Chef Scott managed, grimacing from his injuries. “I’m… doing better. There are eight more on the bridge.”

Spacedawg listened carefully as the Chef explained. “These boys… they cheated on a test I gave during a guest lecture. They’re just rich kids who took Daddy’s yacht for a joyride and ended up stranded here.”

Leaving the Chef hidden, Spacedawg advanced through the yacht. Two more of the boys entered the area, laughing at his command to drop their weapons. Unfazed, Spacedawg stunned and cuffed them with ease.

He sent an encoded message to the Mandoleer’s Folly, providing an update and requesting a retrieval team. In the engineering room, he discovered the maneuvering thruster control was damaged. Accessing the internal sensors, he linked the data to his communication device and tracked the remaining kidnappers, who were scattered across the top deck.

Methodically, Spacedawg took out the isolated kidnappers one by one until only three remained on the bridge. He heard the leader cursing, louder with each passing moment as he tried to contact his friends guarding the Chef, repeatedly shouting, “Just kill the guy!”

Spacedawg entered the bridge and stunned the leader’s companions before pointing his weapon at the leader. The kidnapper attempted to draw a gun, but Spacedawg neutralized him swiftly and applied the cuffs.

A retrieval ship docked with the yacht’s airlock, and the team first evacuated Chef Scott, ensuring he received immediate medical attention aboard the Mandoleer’s Folly. The student kidnappers were placed in the brig, where they would sleep off the stun effects before being interrogated.

He has become a pivotal figure in handling temporal disturbances, working undercover as Agent 93 for a secretive organization tasked with protecting the temporal integrity of his environment. The parents, clearly embarrassed and frustrated, opted for virtual legal representation, feeling their sons didn’t deserve premium lawyers.

Back on the Mandoleer’s Folly, Spacedawg and Henry stood outside the guest quarters.

“Thank you for your help, Spacedawg,” Henry said, visibly relieved. “I don’t know what I would have done without you.”

Spacedawg nodded. “We’ll make sure they face the consequences for what they’ve done. Your Chef is safe, and that’s what matters.”

With Chef Scott recovering and the kidnappers in custody, the Mandoleer’s Folly prepared for its next mission, ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead.
