Due to their careers, the family moved frequently throughout her childhood. This itinerant lifestyle eventually led them to settle on Vancouver Prime, where Burke spent... More, a dedicated physician in the ship’s medical department. They met her early in the morning as she prepared for her shift.

Dr. Burke began her day with a morning jog around the ship’s arboretum. “It helps clear my mind before the day begins,” she explained to the crew, her breath visible in the cool morning air. After her jog, she headed to the mess hall for a quick breakfast, where she greeted other crew members with a warm smile.

With breakfast finished, Dr. Burke made her way to the state-of-the-art medical bay. “Every day is different here,” she said, donning her medical coat. She started her shift by reviewing patient charts and preparing for any scheduled procedures.

The documentary crew followed Dr. Burke as she conducted routine check-ups and treated minor injuries. “We see a lot of various cases, from combat injuries to routine illnesses,” she noted, her hands moving with practiced precision.

During a break, Dr. Burke spoke about her background. “I was born in the New Brunswick SectorOverview A Sector, commonly referred to as a Provincial Sector, is a designated area of space within the broader and diverse cosmic region known as the Canadian Expanse. These Sectors function similarly to provinces, contributing to the organization and governance of this vast territory. Eventually, we settled on Vancouver Prime,” she shared. “The RCSC approached me with a full scholarship to medical school, and I’ve been with them ever since.”

One of the highlights of her day was working alongside the Alchemist, the ship’s chief medical officer. “He’s a remarkable physician and mentor,” Dr. Burke said. “I’ve learned so much from him.”

As the shift ended, Dr. Burke joined her colleagues for a well-deserved meal in the officers’ mess. “It’s important to take time to unwind and connect with the crew,” she explained, enjoying the camaraderie.
