The Mandoleer’s Folly cruised through the vastness of space, its crew going about their routines. Suddenly, the calm was shattered by an urgent beep from the communications console.
“Captain, we’re receiving a distress signal,” Ensign KaelSpecies: Gitchi-mando Gender: Male Birthplace: Toronto Prime, Toronto System Occupation: Weapons Officer, Royal Canadian Space Cavalry, Order 93 Rank: Ensign Station: Mandoleer’s Folly Biography: Ensign Kael, a member of the enigmatic Gitchi-mando species, serves as the Weapons Officer aboard the Mandoleer's Folly. Captain Spacedawg Pauly’s ears perked up. “Elysium Station? Never heard of it. What’s the story there?”
Kael’s fingers danced over the controls. “The signal is on a continuous loop. It’s definitely a distress call, but it’s been repeating for who knows how long.”
Spacedawg nodded and tapped his comm. “Celine, meet me in the conference room. I need some background on Elysium Station.”
A few moments later, Spacedawg and his senior officers gathered in the conference room, joined by Celine’s holographic projection. The holoscreen displayed a grainy image of the derelict station, its once-proud structure now a shadow of its former self.
“Celine, what can you tell us about Elysium Station?” Spacedawg asked, leaning forward.
Celine’s hologram flickered slightly as she began. “Elysium Station was a research facility established decades ago in the Territories SectorOverview A Sector, commonly referred to as a Provincial Sector, is a designated area of space within the broader and diverse cosmic region known as the Canadian Expanse. These Sectors function similarly to provinces, contributing to the organization and governance of this vast territory. Structure and Division The Canadian Expanse is divided into thirteen Provincial Sectors, each with its own.... It was meant to study spatial anomalies and advanced energy sources. But about twenty years ago, a series of unexplained incidents occurred.”
Renée Lachapelle’s curiosity was piqued. “What kind of incidents?”
“Strange phenomena,” Celine explained. “Equipment malfunctioned, scientists reported seeing apparitions, and some went missing. The final straw came when a catastrophic event caused a massive energy surge, leading to a partial evacuation. The station was deemed too dangerous to continue operations, and it was abandoned.”
Spacedawg’s eyes narrowed. “And now we’re picking up a distress signal from that same station?”
“Precisely,” Celine confirmed. “The source of the signal is unknown, but it’s worth investigating. There could be valuable data left behind, or perhaps someone—or something—still there.”
Spacedawg stood, determination in his eyes. “Set a course for Elysium Station. As the Mandoleer’s Folly adjusted its trajectory, the senior officers prepared for the unknown. The eerie history of Elysium Station hung heavy in the air, and they knew they had to proceed with caution.

The Mandoleer’s Folly approached Elysium Station, its exterior scarred by years of neglect. The docking maneuver was smooth, and the airlock connected with a resounding clunk. The away team, clad in advanced space suits, stepped through the airlock into the darkened corridors of the station.
The inside of Elysium Station was cold and silent. The only sound was the faint hum of the life support systems, barely functioning after all these years. Shadows danced on the walls, cast by the flickering emergency lights.
“Stay sharp, everyone,” Renée ordered, her voice steady despite the eerie surroundings. “MaelstromOrigin and Early Life Maelstrom, a Gichi-manidoo from the Rogue Moon of Giizis Babaa-ayaa in the Ontario Sector, is distinguished by her blue-furred, wild cat-like features. Maelstrom’s fingers flew over her portable console. “On it. Give me a minute… There, we’ve got limited power. Cameras are back up.”
J.J. scanned the area, his blaster at the ready. “I don’t like this, Captain. Feels like we’re being watched.”
As the team moved deeper into the station, they began to encounter strange phenomena. Shadows moved on their own, and whispers echoed through the corridors. Personal items, long abandoned, appeared to have been recently disturbed.
“Captain, you need to see this,” MaelstromOrigin and Early Life Maelstrom, a Gichi-manidoo from the Rogue Moon of Giizis Babaa-ayaa in the Ontario Sector, is distinguished by her blue-furred, wild cat-like features. The screen displayed a series of encrypted messages, the last one dated just a few hours ago.
Spacedawg’s eyes narrowed. “Someone’s been here recently. Let’s find out who.”
Renée nodded. “There’s an old command center further in. We might find more answers there.”
As they approached the command center, the temperature dropped suddenly. The team’s breath misted in the frigid air. The door to the command center creaked open, revealing a room filled with decayed consoles and holographic displays.
A voice crackled through the intercom, sending chills down their spines. “Welcome to Elysium Station, intruders. You should not have come here.”
