A New Beginning Chapter 4

Stories, The Mandoleer's Folly Series

The crisp lines of the Order 93 base gleamed under the ceremonial lights as Spacedawg and his crew, adorned in their sharpest dress uniforms, stood waiting alongside Celine and a contingent of other RCSC officers. The atmosphere buzzed with a mix of formality and anticipation. A transport ship descended, its engines humming a low greeting to the assembled crowd.

As the hatch opened, the first to step out were members of the Parliamentary Constabulary, their uniforms impeccable. Inspector Lachapelle leaned in toward Spacedawg, her voice low. “Captain, those are the Parliamentary Constabulary. You don’t think the Prime Minister is actually going to be here, do you?”

Spacedawg, keeping his gaze fixed on the unfolding scene, murmured back, “I haven’t been told anything concrete.”

The next to disembark were familiar faces—Dr. Cornelius with his ever-present grin and Henry Weedmonger, his demeanor as vibrant as ever. They moved through the welcoming party with warm hugs and hearty pats on the back.

Spacedawg, puzzled, asked, “Henry, Cornelius, what brings you here?”

Henry chuckled, “We’re here for the ceremony, of course.”

Spacedawg’s brow furrowed. “What ceremony?”

Dr. Cornelius’s eyes twinkled with mischief. “You’re about to find out.”

The ceremony took an official turn as “O Canada” resonated through the loudspeakers, heralding the arrival of the final guest. Prime Minister Jean le Castor stepped off the transport, his presence commanding immediate respect.

Approaching the podium, the Prime Minister began, “Good day to everyone at Order 93. It is a privilege to stand here among so many distinguished officers and guests.”

He continued, acknowledging the promotions and new assignments with genuine enthusiasm. “I would like to extend my congratulations to those who have recently advanced in their ranks and to the new cadets who have the honor of serving with Order 93.”

His gaze then swept over the crew of the Mandoleer’s Folly. “Your efforts across the Canadian Expanse have not gone unnoticed. Each mission you undertake reinforces our shared values and security.”

Turning to Inspector Lachapelle, he added, “Inspector Lachapelle, your tireless work in the Quebec SectorOverview A Sector, commonly referred to as a Provincial Sector, is a designated area of space within the broader and diverse cosmic region known as the Canadian Expanse. He smiled warmly at Celine. “Agent Ebner, you are a credit to your service, and indeed, your leadership echoes the legacy of your esteemed parents.”

As the Prime Minister concluded his speech, an aide wheeled up a hovercart laden with ornate boxes. “For valor and dedication to protecting the Canadian way of life,” he announced, presenting medals and accommodations to the members of the original Order 93 crew.

After the formalities, Celine gestured to Spacedawg and his senior staff. “Please, join me in the Officer’s Mess Hall for a reception.”

Meanwhile, Ed, slightly overwhelmed by the pomp but ever diligent, turned to the rest of the crew. “Alright, everyone, get settled and prepare for a walkthrough of the ship with the Prime Minister.”
